Kentucky Trip a Trip of Firsts

Here's a recap of my trip! An article on the Creation Museum itself can be found on my other blog. A link can be found on the side.

We left at 8 on Thursday morning and miraculously only stopped 3 times the whole way to our hotel just south of Cincinnati. We got there around 7 p.m. After unloading, we went to Cracker Barrel. That was fun. After eating, we went back to the hotel and had some great devotion time (We took a different Psalm each night). Then we swam in the pool for a while while fireworks exploded across the interstate from the hotel and pool. We then watched, I'm sad to say, a lot of garbage on TV before going to bed (no really . . . it was garbage. It was an educational show on what happens to all the garbage).

I would like to take the time to talk about our hotel room. The bathroom floor had been waxed, and it was like walking on soap. The carpet had been turned up at the bathroom door, and nails were sticking up, poking both my feet before the night was up. Don't worry about me. I had a tetanus shot a couple of months ago. Allan kept the AC on for every single minute of the three days we were there. COLD. lol

On Friday, we got up and ate breakfast. It was free, and it was good for the price. No really it was good. It was better than a continental breakfast. We got eggs or pancakes and things like that. We were very blessed to get lodging that was as cheap and it was good despite the downsides I mentioned.

After eating, we went to the Creation Museum at the 10 a.m. opening. We had so much fun and learned alot. We spent 9 hours there, leaving around 7 p.m. There is so much to do. There is the recline and watch Stargazers Planetarium which was AWESOME, a special effects show, a petting zoo, and botanical gardens outside that were beautiful.

The walk through part of the museum was great. They held nothing back. Critics have railed on them for "leaving science for religion" in the museum (and other things like indoctrination and deliberate misinforming of children), but a walk through of Genesis and Biblical history doesn't make sense without the Gospel -- and the science was there too. They did not water down anything. I was very encouraged by that.

After we left the museum, we went to downtown Cincinnati and ate dinner at the mall right on the river. It was so cool and beautiful. We watched a street entertainer eat a balloon animal balloon . . . like literally down the hatch, swallowed, and didn't come back. Then we went to go eat (thank goodness) I got a ten inch pizza on the menu for less than 10 bucks. My bill was less than 13 with the drink and tip (it's amazing how cost conscious you can be when you're paying for it yourself). We had more great devotion time before going to bed that night too.

On Saturday we went to King's Island and I rode my first two roller coasters ever! Max speed, 35 mph. I'm going to work my way up. We had so much fun. It had been raining right before we left, and David Crowder's "O Praise Him" filled the parking lot while a rainbow stretched over the park. That was really cool. Then we went to a weird restaurant called "Toot's". I had my first ever fried pickle chips, and we got a full rack of ribs plus sides for $9.99! Good deal!

On Sunday we drove back and got home around 7:00 P.M. again -- just in time to hear one of my favorite speakers at church. The drives were surprisingly not boring. I guess the 11 other people in the van helped a lot. On the way up there we played Taboo for about the last hour or so. Laughing

Yes, this was long, but I loved the trip, and I would go back tomorrow. I promised a recap of the trip...so that's what you got. The trip was such a blessing.

A few firsts for me:
  • Going to Ohio
  • Going to the Creation Museum
  • Seeing Cincinnati, by the river, ect.
  • First roller coaster
  • First fried pickle chips
  • Cincinnati sweet tea is not too bad ...
  • I'm sure there are so many more.
