Commonplace 13

This is another semi-nonvisual commonplace.

The burka. Ok, so places like France have banned the piece of clothing as derogatory and subjugating to women. To me, this shows a commonplace. The West thinks its views of freedom (especially the U.S.) are "all that," and that means everyone else should be as free as we are. I mean, there are many merits to that, but when it comes to religion to an extent, I take issue.

I see the same thing when it comes to Christians interpreting the Bible to say that the passages that outline men as leaders and women not to pastor a church etc are only for those times and they put the American West view of gender on the Bible. While the American West view may be true, that's not the point. The point is that the view of gender equality in the West has become unquestioned and has led to restricting a muslim woman's right to cover herself by her own choice (because in many instances it is her choice) and ignoring how the Bible outlines the way a local church runs.
