Alex and Brett Harris are on a mission to combat a commonplace: low expectations of the teen. It developed out of well-meaning child labor laws that gave teens a period in their life in school where they had all the physical maturity of an adult, but none of the responsibility. The word teen didn't appear till after WWII, I believe.

Teens are among the biggest consumers to day, for example. Every college student graduates with $4000 in credit card debt on average.

Teens aren't expected to be responsible. If you are bad at math, you have an excuse. It just "isn't your thing." Before, you tried harder until you got it. George Washington was the county surveyor by the end of his teens.

Basically, I just regurgitated some of their book. Awesome stuff. Rebellion is expected and encouraged these days in a way. Alex and Brett Harris combat this.

(If you get a chance, read up on the story of how elephants are trained in India. Powerful analogy)
